Our stories begin in one neighborhood, one awesome neighborhood that we adore and can't seem to leave, because we don't want to ! This neighborhood has struggles, a lot of struggles. It is the west side of the tracks, the slum of Salt Lake according to those who live East of the tracks. We know it is as the place where neighbors take the coat off of their back to help the homeless guy on the corner, take dinner to the family who's dad just had surgery, and who offer a room for the family that just lost their apartment.
We have seen what can cause true turmoil in a family. We have lived through some of this ourselves. This turmoil is not reserved for our type of neighborhood though, we just heard it more loudly at times growing up, but it exists everywhere. We hear that the family unit is under attack, and, well, it is. From poverty that results in homelessness or two parents working full time and thus the resultant latch key kids, to the profound influence drugs and other addiction have on the entire family, to so so many other struggles, the family is a unit fighting to survive, and we want to fight with it!
Each of us have different paths our families have taken, and struggles that came along the way. Our founder was raised as an only child with disabled parents. Her mom passed at a young age and her dad worked hard way past retirement years and with health problems adding up year by year. Her marriage ended unexpectedly, leaving her a single mom of four awesome kids who have all had genetic emotional struggles, but have fought through them and have come out stronger. She struggles to keep afloat and take care of the post and past generation of her family, all with unique needs and health problems but finds strength in her God, in music, in her family and friends and in finding joy in each moment.
Another founder was raised in a family of ten, experienced a parental divorce while growing up, and later became a single mom of two. She works long, very long, hours to make ends meet each day. She is brilliant and is a beacon of strength, perseverance and loyalty. She soaks in information on business, finance, health, and any resource she can find, and then shares it with all in her influence to help all around her be stronger, happier, more successful people. She has beautifully taught her kids to come out of trial stronger, kinder, and more valiant.
Yet another founder has passed the mark of parent and enjoys the title of grandma. Her family all grew up in this awesome Glendale we all have in common, and she has seen each of her children grow to have individual struggles and victories, each knowing through it all that they had a mom and dad, grandma and grandpa that loved them no matter what and was there to fight with them. She is the champion of provident living and has shared her mad skills with all around her. Now health issues are bringing their own struggles, and maybe they keep her from walking, but not from moving, sharing and bringing continued smiles and support. She is a champion of showing the world what she, and others CAN do.
These are only a few of our life experiences, but in all, this richly diverse group, from the sometimes difficult but always wonderful west side of ours have learned what it takes to hold on to our families, hold on to the simple things that bring a smile and a hug, and reach out each day because there will always been someone nearby who could use a hand. We are here to offer that hand to families, reaching out as far as we can and joining hands to continue the goal, to strengthen, fortify, and build the family unit, and keep smiles rampant in the home. We invite you to join the cause through supporting our endeavors, lending a hand to someone today, and making absolute sure that everyone in your home and family knows that you love them. Help us fight for the family, starting with your own ! We can make life amazing again and keep it that way!
